Daily Devotion

Proverbs 4:23-27

Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put devious speech far from you. Let your eyes look directly ahead and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. Watch the path of your feet and all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right nor to the left; turn your foot from evil.

If you want godliness to flow out of you, guard your inner life!
What flows out of your life comes from inside you. This inner life—the whole non-physical part of you—is called your "heart" in the Bible.
God's clear message to us from this passage is that we must constantly work to take care of our inner lives. The pressures of school work, being accepted by your friends and temptation all work together to distract us from our inner lives and make us focus on our outer lives. But if you want your outer life to stay in balance and not overwhelm you, you must make your inner life your first priority.
Take time with God each day. Develop your walk with Him. Look at your priorities. Are the most important things in life coming first? Fix your gaze on them; don't be distracted. Remember Hume Lake!

Don't neglect your heart. Watch over it with all diligence.
